There are lots of ways you can get involved with this exciting event. As a sponsorOver the past 3 years Maritime Woodbridge has developed into one of the highlights of the town’s calendar. The event is organised by and for the community. A key aspect is that it is free (and fun) for visitors, but underpinned by the heritage we all share, and which still influences the town today. So far this has been made possible by a combination of volunteer effort and grant aid from various bodies. The volunteer aspect will continue, but it is likely that the grants – provided as seed-corn funding – will not. So the event needs funds. The amount needed is of the order of £10,000. Our preferred route to raising that sort of money is to ask a wide range of local organisations for a relatively small contribution, so reflecting the community nature of the event. We have in mind 100 contributions of £100. All contributors would get full acknowledgement on the website and programme, and the opportunity to put up a banner at the event. The most important thing would be your involvement and identification with a genuinely community-based event where we all can celebrate our shared heritage. Please get in touch if you would like to help this way. As an exhibitorPerhaps you would like to exhibit. There will be exhibition space for both commercial and non-commercial organisations. The main area is likely to be Whisstock's shed and yard, but there will be displays and stalls along the way between the Tidemill and the Deben Yacht Club. Moray MacPhail is the one to contact for that. As a helper on the dayHow could you pass up the opportunity to spend hours standing in a coracle pond, or clearing up pigeon poo, moving boats, or all the myriad things that need doing before, during and after the event? (Answers on a postcard, please). |
